Curry Wok

It was a lazy Saturday afternoon and we wanted to bring Mum someplace for some simple home cooked fare and we ended up at Curry Wok.

Where is it?

5 Coronation Road #01-04 Coronation Arcade

What to eat

We are talking about the wholesome goodness of home cooked food so most items on the menu is quite yummy indeed.

Home made Otah, Braised Pig's Trotters, Home made Ngor Hiang etc etc... Almost every dish is a winner for me so far. But gushing aside;

There is the a la carte menu, where you can order your sides and such, or you can get the set which would cost you about S$6 (which gives you a decent serving of rice, a side of pork cutlet, curry chicken and chap chai, drenched with curry). There is also the set menu for three to four person (which we ordered).

We we had

The set menu (see photo) for three to four pax consist of a serving of Pig's Trotters, Home Made Ngor Hiang, Chap Chai and Curry Fish head. I ordered the Otah as one of the side dishes.

Price we paid

The set itself cost S$46 which is pretty reasonable while the otah cost S$8 which some may consider it a tad steep but you know what, it's rich, aromatic and filled with chunks of fish meat made it a must have for me. The do no bill you GST or Service Charge.

Was it good?

Most certainly. Anyone who is craving for a little bit of home cooked goodness should give it a go. On a side note, the sambal belachan packs a punch and goes well with most dishes. The service is good with attentive staff and the best bit is how fast the dishes get served.

This was my third visit and I can see myself going back a few more times, especially when I crave for home cooked food.

Enjoy! :)

Standing Sushi Bar

So i found out about Standing Sushi Bar (SSB) through Twitter and decided to join a friend of mine for a quick lunch on afternoon.

Where is it?
#B1-02B OUB Centre

What to eat?
With fresh sashimi flown in daily, one is spoilt for choice. Their daily set lunches are value for money and of course, their popular omakase dinner (where the chef gets to decide the menu) needs you to make a reservation first.

Why do we need to stand?
Because it helps the food go down easier. ;)

We did we have?
We did set lunches which included a very well presented & colourful Chirashi Don as well as sushi and handrolls.

Was it good?
Quite so. Fast, friendly service coupled with fresh and well prepared sashimi made this joint a winner for me.

Marutama

Tucked away on the 2nd level in Liang Court, Maratuma serves up a tasty bowl of noodles with a potent soup base, savoury to the very last drop.

What to eat
With a very limited menu (four types of soup bases to choose from), one isn't exactly spoilt for choice but you won't go wrong with any of the choices you make because they're all so darn good. The side dishes are definitely worth ordering.

What we had
Marutama Char Siew Rice
Served in a small bowl with chunky melt-in-your-mouth char siew that was simply a delight to have. Was almost tempted to order a second bowl until i was gently reminded by the missus i had a bowl of ramen waiting.

Ramen in spicy chicken broth
The noodles were springy and cooked just right while the soup, while a tad salty, was served piping hot (it didn't help that it was a rainy afternoon), which warmed me up nicely.

Sides
Tamago - Or japanese omelette, it was very well prepared and i simply loved how it tasted so light & fluffy.
Char Siew - Thin slices of heaven that yields a smokey flavour, with enough lean meat and fat to leave me wanting more.

Was it good?
Uh huh! A year round favourite, I have been back there many more times since my maiden visit.

Colbar

Nestled away in one corner of Wessex Estate, Colbar serves up beer choices aplenty, with enough grub to satisfy a broad spectrum of food cravings.

Located at 9A Whitchurch Road, Wessex Estate, Colbar is an unpretentious place for gatherings.

We popped by one evening after a long day at work and we found ourselves within lush greenry, surrounded by the smell of cooked food and the muted laughter of their guests having a good time.

What to eat?
It serves everything from Chinese "Cze CChar" to English grub such as steak sandwich, fish & chips, pork chop and chicken cutlet.

What we had
2 cans of Boddingtons, 1 bottle of Fiddler's Elbow, a serving of Pork chops, Fish & Chips and Chicken Cutlet each.

Price we paid
Truth be told, you can probably find better tasting food in town for the same prices you pay. All in all, we paid about S$55.

Was it good?
The taste of what we ordered didn't exactly blow my senses away so there isn't much to rave about. I was told however, to try their curry dish because it was supposed to be tasty.

The only redeeming factor is the fact that they have malt vinegar that gives the chips a zesty oomph.

Would I go back?
Certainly! Not for the food specifically but for a nice cool beer on a lazy weekend, watching kids and dogs play under the trees while enjoying the occasion cool breeze that waft through.

Hatched

So the missus told me excitedly to pack my camera today before we headed out for our morning stroll.

"New place to makan", she confided.

So we ended up at Hatched, located @ 26, Evans Rd. #01-26 Evans Lodge.

What does it look like?

With a name like Hatched, it would not take a big leap of imagination to realise that they sell eggs. Lots of eggs. Done all sort of ways.

Poached, Baked, Boiled, Fried and more!

What to eat
Well, they serve a comprehensive all day breakfast menu that delights the senses so you can't go wrong if you want to bring your first date or family members there (unless they suffer any allergic reactions from ingesting any egg dishes).

What we had
Burly Benedict
It's egg's benedict but instead of a slice of ham, we are talking about a slice of wagyu beef topped with a gorgeously poached egg.

Popeye's Salute
Half a slice of English Muffin topped with wilted spinach and a beautifully done poached egg with a side of mash.

Snazzy Mollet
Baked under a blanket of egg & cheese, you tear away the top to find under, ham, bacon & mushroom. Talk about buried treasure!

Sleepover
This was kind of like our dessert but this was basically french toast accompanied with a shot glass filled with maple syrup. Delectable!

Price i paid
For all that we ordered, it was under S$50 sans GST + Service Charge (they do not charge either)

Was it good?
Undoubtedly! A delightful joint for one and all to enjoy a leisurely Sunday breakfast, Hatched's service wasn't too shabby and staff came by to made sure all was well.

Amuse-bouche

I've always been keen on food.

And I love sharing food with friends.

So this is it.

I may not always feature the latest food joint (though i will try my darnest) but you can be sure everything is kept real/authentic.

So enjoy the photos, reviews and hopefully, you can share these places with friends too.

Remember; The best meal will mean nothing if you do not have a friend to share it with.

Wok with me.
